Antiquorums auction June 15th

Yesterday I was visitting Gerard s watch store and while I was there drinking some coffee, I browsed the latest Antiquorum catalogue for the upcoming auction of the 15th of June.Just now I noticed a post by Felipe on WatchRap.com which describes (in pictures and text) some of the highlights of that auction. Felipe visitted the auction preview in New York in person with some watch friends and took a lot of pictures. This Patek ref.2499 for example, estimated between 200.000 and 250.000 USD:Picture by Felipe.See for your self....

Bas and his rattling Speedmaster Pro

Bas van Dorp emailed me the following story:Some months ago, I went snowboarding for a week with some friends. As everyyear, I just wear my Omega Speedmaster Pro during snowboarding. I figured thata Speedmaster Pro should be able to deal with this quite easily. However, after a few days on the slopes, I noticed a rattling sound comingfrom my watch. It sounded as if something had come loose. Ooops! The watchwas was still running, but I had these visions of what could happen when apart would get stuck in the escapement or somewhere in the geartrain. Igathered all my courage and I decided it was the best thing to to open thewatch immediately.I didn t have a caseback tool at hand, and the plie...

Fratellos Guide To Omega Speedmaster Watches

Are you looking to buy an Omega Speedmaster but don t know where to start? We re here to help! At least I can praise it for originality

This afternoon, I was in Gerard s watch shop browsing through some watch magazines, and I really was amazed when I saw this Bell & Ross advertisement. I love their watches (in general), and I think when you do a search on Bell & Ross on Fratello, you should be able to find some articles. I love their Vintage 126 model and their Space models, which are more or less based on Sinn watches.Anyway, Bell & Ross released this new model. Inspired by aviation instruments, and it shows ofcourse.I am not a big fan of aviation instruments, so this watch goes beyond imagination of how it would look on my wrist. I can praise Bell & Ross for their designs and originality, but I wonder h...

My new watchbox

My girlfriend bought me this box, suitable for 4 (large) watches. The Panerai is 44mm, the Sinn is 44mm as well I guess and the other two are 40mm. There was also a cloth with it to clean the box, it is made out of wood and has a sort of piano finish on it which makes it very shiny…...

Omega Planet Ocean

Although Omega is one of my favorite brands, I remain critical to their latest additions like the DeVille Co-Axial (they should have named this ‘Constellation since it has a lot of characteristics from the 50s and 60s Constellation pie-pan models), Broad Arrow (the watch itself is nice, but the way how Omega markets this watch.. tribute to the Moonwatch, give me a break) and the Aqua Terra (the design is too similair with the Oyster Date, Airking and Explorer models). Taste is personal ofcourse, so I don t mind if you don t agree. ??However, their latest addition, Planet Ocean of the Seamaster range is a refreshing watch! I am still not certain about the hands, but the watch itsel...

This poor guy who calls himself ‘rsg1 really suffers on the Public Forum at TimeZone after he asked something about his deployment buckle. Siemens hides

I got this one in via e-mail by Martin, it is a reference to an article in a German magazine called Der Spiegel.Hi RJ!Do you know some German? If so, I m sure you re going to like this one:https://m.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,339120,00.htmlIt s about a Siemens manager who had his Sub retouched from his official press photo before announcing major layoffs. Pretty embarassing stuff.-martinThe photo the article is about:...

Odd looking Speedmaster

Yesterday I was at Gerard s place and he asked me if Speedmasters always were chronographs. I didn t have to think long and said that I can t remember seeing them. Then he showed me this Omega brochure from 1991 with a Speedmaster on the cover which wasn t a chronograph. The referencenumber is definately Speedmaster, since it is in the 3000-series. The case-shape showed some similairities as well (notice the outside of the lugs). But that s it.No Speedmaster on the dial as well, but I was told that the caseback had ‘Speedmaster engraved.Click here for the thread over at the Speedmaster Forum at The Speedmaster Club...

Camille Fournet via TCStraps

About 3 years ago, I visitted the Camille Fournet office in Paris, together with Gerard Nijenbrinks. I was immediately impressed by the quality and looks of their straps.A few months ago, I bought a Panerai and as you probably know, they come with a little screwdriver to exchange straps quite easily. So after a quick browse on the internet I discovered the TCStraps site by Elliot Lazarus. They have an incredible collection of Panerai straps and buckles. I decided to order a tan beaver(tail?) strap for my Panerai PAM00113 (white dial Luminor Marina), an expensive strap, but it looks marvelous on the watch. I get a lot of comments on this one.Last monday, I got in a pre-Vendome style buckle, a...

Why You Cant Go Wrong With The Datejust

When I started collecting watches in the late 1990 s, my watch dealer – and now Fratello contributor – Gerard told me that I needed a Datejust. Can t go wrong with a Datejust as they always work. With anything.. A short and simple statement from someone who had – by that time already – seen and tried it all. A few years later, just after graduation, I got my first Datejust. It was a vintage Datejust from 1969, with reference 1600, on a jubilee bracelet that was clearly added later. I managed to find a couple of extra bezels, including the fluted white gold one, so I could change it to a reference ‘1601 when I felt like it. It was also an easy watch to wear on...

Deke Slaytons watch

Jason Oliver at TimeZone posted a message that the Speedmaster Pro owned by astronaut Deke Slayton was sold at some auction. You can find it here. Here is a picture of the watch:I hope the buyer puts on a new strap! ?? The buckle seems to be original Omega (and in the right time-period). I really doubt if I would ever sell such a personal belonging as a watch that joined me on spaceflights....

Patek or Lange

That s the question that keeps Michael Sandler of TZ busy ?? A lot of reactions, and it almost seems to be a vs Other brand. It is nice to see all those opinions, and sometimes Patek is getting the same blame as . Do you want it because it says Patek? Pfff… unbelievable. Some people tend to forget that buying a watch is very personal, either you like it better than the other or you don t. Most of the time people can t even explain why they like the other one better. And they don t have to in my opinion. It is about taste, not about a name on the dial, especially not with watches with these kind of names on it.Oh btw, it is this watch:and this one..Personally, I would go Patek. To me,...

Sinn EZM review

Some time ago, Bas van Dorp and I both decided we needed a Lemania 5100 watch. I bought a Sinn 142 St.S at Horloge Platform Nederland in The Hague and Bas ordered a Sinn EZM1. His one was on order, and since the run on the last watches with Lemania 5100 was enormous, he had to wait a bit longer. Last week his watch arrived and here you can read his review on his EZM1.About two years ago, I read that Lemania would end the production of thecal. 5100. The horror! The guys who came up with this idea will be thefirst against the wall when the revolution comes, that's for sure. Sinn, among others, would still be producing watches with this movement, usingthe remaining stock. I was still happy weari...

Explorer Opinion Girl

In the statistics of this website, I can see how people came to this weblog. I can even see the words they used in Yahoo Search, Google or other searchengines. Most of the time, the search string is quite clear and logical. ‘ prices or ‘Panerai straps for example. However, today I saw this one: explorer opinion girlNow I am curious about the ‘question of the Googler. Was it a girl who was looking for Explorer opinions (for girls), or was it a guy who was curious about the opinions girls have on this watch? In either case, I will try to answer this one for the unknown visitor on this site who searched on this string.Scenario 1. You are a girl and want to know how people ...
