The next chapter in the MoonSwatch collection shifts perspectives and brings something new to the table. Is it enough to get you excited?Swatch has just announced a new model within the highly successful MoonSwatch collection. Yes, it s yet another one, and yes, the line is highly successful. Even though the days of never-ending queues are over, the sales figures keep encouraging an expansion of this collection. And lets be honest before jumping into the comments: who wouldnt continue pushing a product that keeps selling? The MoonSwatch Mission to EarthphaseRefreshingly, this new model features a complication that we havent seen before - earth phases. Just as the name suggests, its essentially a perspective shift. Instead of looking at the Moon from Earth, we are now looking at Earth from the Moon to observe its, well, phases. This is a novel function that Swatch also mentions to be patented. In addition to this new complication, you will find the well-established moonphase indicator right next to it. Suffice it to say, all your phase are belong to Swatch (not a typo - if you understood this reference, please drop a comment to win both RJs and my admiration).Besides the introduction of a new complication, all the other features we ve come to expect from a MoonSwatch are present. These include a light gray 42mm Bioceramic case with a Velcro strap, the well-established sub-dial layout, and the Omega Swatch branding on the dial and strap. The dial itself also comes in gray with a grainy texture meant to resemble the lunar surface. UV ink was applied to the miniature earths oceans, whereas Super-LumiNova was used to treat the two small moons. These two displays combined with lumed indices and hands should make this new member of the MoonSwatch family especially interesting in the dark. Lastly, if you turn the watch around, you will find an image of Neil Armstrongs footprint on the battery cover.Pricing and availabilityIn case you are intrigued by this newest offering from Swatch, there is some good and some not-so-good news: the MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase is a non-limited model, so the chances that you can get one are high. However, it will only be available in selected Swatch stores starting November 2nd and will cost $330. Depending on where you live, buying one could be quite a challenge. Honestly, I would have loved to see Swatch expanding the collection of MoonSwatches that you can order online. Nevertheless, despite the in-store-only availability, I am rather impressed with this newest iteration because it took me by surprise with a new take on a well-established complication. Granted, I cant quite tell you why you would want to know anything about earth phases from a practical perspective - but hey, its a bit of lighthearted astronomical fun.Whats your take? Fun? Yawn?
