The OMEGA Speedmaster First OMEGA in Space 310.32.40.50.06.002 was introduced in 2024 as a modern interpretation of the Speedmaster CK 2998, the reference worn by astronaut Walter Wally Schirra during the Sigma 7 mission on October 3, 1962. That flight marked the first time an OMEGA wristwatch was worn in space and established a key chapter in the Speedmasters early spaceflight history.

The watch features a symmetrical 39.7 mm stainless-steel case with polished and brushed surfaces, reflecting the proportions and construction of the second-generation Speedmaster first released in 1959. A black aluminium bezel ring frames the dial and carries a tachymeter scale with the characteristic dot over ninety. This configuration is fitted with a brown leather strap in calf leather, secured by a stainless-steel pin buckle.

Beneath a hesalite-like sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment, the dial is CVD-coated in a grey-blue tone, replicating the appearance seen on certain CK 2998 examples produced in the 1960s. Applied hour markers and slender Alpha-style hour and minute hands are filled with vintage-coloured Super-LumiNova. The central chronograph seconds hand is white varnished to match the transferred markings. The chronograph layout consists of a 30-minute recorder at 3 oclock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 oclock, and a small-seconds display at 9 oclock.

Vintage OMEGA logos appear on both the dial and the crown. The solid caseback is finished with a Seahorse medallion and engraved with THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE and OCTOBER 3, 1962, directly referencing the models historical origin.

Powering the watch is the manually wound OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, certified by METAS for precision, magnetic resistance, and overall performance. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and represents the modern evolution of the chronograph architecture associated with early Speedmaster spaceflight models.
