Omega Adds Some Weight To The Seamaster Diver 300M

April 02, 2020

Omega didnt make a fuss about these two new gold Seamaster Diver 300M references and just sneakily added them to the catalog. And I wonder why there was no press release on them, like there was on the new steel Seamaster Diver 300M with orange accents the other week. Anyway, that decision was made, but even though these two watches were not officially released with the same attention as the steel one, I feel they re worth mentioning here.Seamaster Diver 300M ref. 210.52.42.20.04.001The two Seamaster Diver 300M watches in goldSo, here they are - two new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M models, one in 18K rose gold and one in 18K yellow gold! Omega developed its Sedna rose gold alloy in 2012 to make the rose hue last longer. Omegas 18K Moonshine yellow gold is slightly paler than regular gold due to some of its ingredients (palladium, for example). Fratello has mentioned these alloys several times in other articles, but if you want to learn more, you can check out A Hitchhiker s Guide to Omega s Exclusive Gold Alloys here. The one I preferAlthough both watches have similar specs, they look pretty different. I like the Sedna Gold version a bit more. Due to its gold bezel, this watch resembles one of my other 300M favorites, the Olympic Games 2024 Paris edition. The rose gold Seamaster Diver 300M comes on a brown rubber strap with a Sedna Gold tang buckle. The polished white ceramic dial has Omegas famous wave pattern and a date window at 6 oclock.Seamaster Diver 300M ref. 210.62.42.20.01.003Omega s Moonshine Gold Diver 300M model uses contrasting black for the bezel insert, dial, and rubber strap. This look is perhaps a bit more classic, but I love the combination of rose gold and brown. I am not so keen on the date windows, especially now that I have been wearing the steel Diver 300M for several days, which has none. It makes the dial so much easier on the eyes. And I just don t need a date. Once I check the date on my phone or computer in the morning, I can remember it for the rest of the day, so a constant reminder is not necessary. But I guess the other 50% of watch enthusiasts prefer a date window on their watches.Caliber 8801First impressions of the new gold Seamaster Diver 300M modelsAlthough I believe Omega s Seamaster Diver 300M is due for a design update since the current form has been in the collection for over seven years, these recent releases look good. The Sedna Gold version of the Diver 300M, with its white ceramic wave-motif dial and brown rubber strap, is something I wouldn t mind wearing, for example. The watches 42mm diameter, 49.9mm length, and 13.9mm thickness may not be for everyone (anymore), but this size suits my 18cm wrist perfectly. All specifications are available in the table below this article.Omega making the Seamaster Diver 300M in gold isn t new; even the first 300M models from the 1990s were available in this precious metal. Omega has several versions of the current Diver 300M in full gold, also with blue and green dials, but the new Sedna Gold version with the white ceramic dial works best for me. All the full-gold models have Omega s 8801 movement, which contains a Sedna Gold rotor and balance bridge. The price of the 18K Sedna Gold Seamaster Diver 300M costs $33,100 (inc. VAT) / US$31,400 (ex. sales tax), and the Moonshine Gold Diver 300M costs $32,500 (inc. VAT) / US$30,800 (ex. sales tax).
