Panerai moves quickly! After a busy Watches and Wonders 2025, there s already another new release. The Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica was announced with the brand s official timekeeping role at the Salone del Mobile. This is Milan s Design Week, and the event is the world s largest furniture show.Furniture may sound like a funny connection to Panerai, but the brand sees itself as a practiced creator of functional design. Plus, with futuristic materials and innovation, the link makes sense. The fact that the Salone del Mobile takes place in Milan only bolsters the partnership. But enough about the trade fair - we re here to look at a specific new watch, the Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica.The Panerai Luminor GMT Power Reserve CeramicaUnsurprisingly, this new Ceramica ref. PAM01574 is made of black ceramic. At 44mm in diameter, the watch uses the Luminor 1950 case. In this version, it has a 300m depth rating, a capability that Panerai ensures by testing to 25% more than the stated specification. To make use of this capability, Panerai delivers the watches with both a quick-release blue rubber strap and a matching dark blue alligator one. Both are equipped with trapezoidal titanium pin buckles.Panerai shared a top-level explanation of the Ceramica case s production process. Essentially, powdered ceramic is molded. Then, the green part undergoes a sintering process, which shrinks the form by ~20%. Finally, the brand s artisans use diamond-tipped cutting tools to create the final curves and surface finishes. It s impressive and engineered to be incredibly strong and durable.A blue sunray sandwich dialWith any Panerai watch, it s crucial to ensure that the final product successfully integrates key elements of the brand s design language. The Ceramica may be made of an advanced material, but it s instantly recognizable as a Panerai. Part of the reason is its dark blue sunray sandwich dial. Here, Panerai adds a layer of Super-LumiNova below the blue dial, and it shines through stencil-like cutouts. Because this is a complicated watch, the sandwich dial has more detail, such as an indicator for the 72-hour power reserve. Other details include an arrow-tipped GMT hand.The P.9012 is a traveler s GMT movementThe Ceramica PAM01574 uses the in-house P.9012 automatic caliber. It is visible via a smoked sapphire crystal within the Grade 5 titanium case back. This 31-jewel movement has impressive specs. It uses twin barrels to achieve the 3-day power reserve. Unlike some brands that achieve a lengthy power reserve by dropping the frequency, Panerai has designed the P.9012 to run at 28,800vph. Most importantly, this movement qualifies as a traveler s GMT because the hour hand moves in one-hour increments. Also, in addition to a hacking feature, pulling the crown out snaps the small seconds hand back to zero.Non-limited and availableWhen I first looked at the PR material for the Ceramica PAM01574, I thought that the watch was a limited edition. The positive is that this handsome piece is a new addition to the regular catalog. However, it does cost $16,800 / US$16,500 / $14,200, a spendy sum. Then again, the watch has an impressive movement and a highly detailed ceramic case. Normally, I favor a plain Panerai without complications, but the Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica PAM01574 manages to show its details without creating a busy appearance. The black ceramic and dark blue dial work well together.
