Introducing: The New Baltic Hermetique Summer Collection

May 12, 2015

The Baltic Hermetique has been a bona fide hit since its introduction in 2023. Since then, the Besan?on, France-based brand has added new models to the lineup, including additional colors and bronze-cased pieces. Today, and just in time for the warm-weather holidays, a collection of four Hermetique Summer watches has been announced. These brightly colored field watches look like the perfect accompaniment at the beach or pool. Best of all, they re affordable and almost immediately available.Vividly hued watches have been in vogue for several years, but I rarely tire of them. After all, they re still rarer than the typical black-, blue-, green-, or white-dial timepieces. Plus, colorful watches are fun, especially when they re affordable. Baltic is now dipping its toes into a multicolored pool with four new pieces as part of the Hermetique Summer collection. The Baltic Hermetique Summer collectionFor anyone who has tried on an existing model, the new Hermetique Summer watches will feel highly familiar. They employ the same 37mm by 46mm 316L stainless steel case with a 10.8mm thickness, including the double-domed sapphire crystal. These field-style watches include an angled and polished bezel affixed to a brushed case. Drilled lug holes and a plain, polished crown are found on the flanks of this clean, military-esque case. Four brightly colored dial optionsThe Hermetique Summer editions are available in four striking colors that should look great against a tan. The pink, orange, yellow, and turquoise dials each have a black chapter ring. Baltic uses molded BGW9 Super-LumiNova for the indexes, which include dots, batons, and Arabic numerals. The dials sit beneath luminous syringe hands with polished frames and a sweeping seconds hand with a luminous dot. The classic, ultra-legible layout is attractive and hard to fault. Then, the molded luminous indexes lend the right amount of modernity. Speaking of the Super-LumiNova, the watch lights up like a torch in the dark. Each element is well defined and emits a blue glow. The Miyota 9039 is inside the Hermetique SummerLike other models in the collection, the Hermetique Summer variants use the popular Miyota 9039. This automatic movement is robust and helps support a lower entry price. It offers hacking, hand-winding, 42 hours of power reserve, and a frequency of 28,800vph. Frankly, while I d always like to see an exclusively manual-winding caliber, this is probably the right type of movement for the target audience. A host of strap and bracelet optionsThe Hermetique Summer watches are available on dial-matching Tropic-style FKM rubber straps with stainless steel pin buckles. Alternatively, buyers can opt for 20mm-wide stainless steel beads-of-rice or flat-link bracelets. There s no wrong choice here because all of them look great with the watch head. Plus, with drilled lug holes, switching between a strap and bracelet is relatively easy. Note that the bracelets do not feature toolless micro-adjustment, so a strap might be a more comfortable option in the heat.Affordable and availableFun, affordable releases are always great news, and Baltic has delivered. The Hermetique Summer watches are available on the Baltic website for $550 with the rubber strap and $615 with either bracelet. If the styling and colors are of interest, that feels like a great deal. This is a no-worries watch that should be able to withstand most holiday hijinks, and it s not a theft magnet. I ve tried on the Hermetique and thought it felt fantastic, but at the time, the thought of adding another dark-dialed watch didn t interest me. Now, though, there s a nice potential option for my upcoming tropical getaway.
