The Baltic Hermetique collection consists of colorful and vintage-inspired field watches. I say colorful because, initially, it was only available in brown, green, beige, and blue. Somehow, I didn t even notice that a black or white option wasn t available. But one of our readers left a comment underneath Thomas s hands-on article expressing his surprise at the lack of a black-dial option at launch. Well, it almost looks like Baltic s founder Etienne Malec saw that comment because now, less than six months after the initial introduction of the Hermetique, he s launching both black and white versions. But be quick because only 400 of this Hermetique Glacier limited edition will be made. The more colorful dials of the initial four versions of the Baltic Hermetique were quite flat and matte. As the name of this limited edition suggests, its dial design is inspired by ice-cold glaciers. That s why both the black and white limited editions have a three-dimensional texture that resembles the texture of those everlasting ice fields. Let s take a quick look at Baltic s Hermetique Glacier. The Baltic Hermetique GlacierAs Thomas already mentioned in his hands-on article, the 37mm case of the Hermetique is inspired by an IWC Hermet case from the 40s. The new Glacier limited edition has that same stainless steel case, which is 10.8mm thick and spans 46mm from lug to lug. Its sides are horizontally brushed, the top of the case is brushed circularly, and the slim bezel is fully polished. Of course, the integrated crown is still there. This gives the watch an extra level of versatility as it s equally comfortable to wear on the left or right wrist. Now we get to the more unique part of the Hermetique Glacier - its textured dials, available in your choice of black or white. Just like the regular versions, the Glacier also has a black railway-style minute track. This time, though, it received a brushed finish, just like the bold center of the dial. It contrasts nicely with the two polished steel rings that mark the transition from the outer to the inner dial. Of course, the characteristic fully lumed numerals and indexes are still there. They stand out, especially on the black version, but because of their thickness, you ll most definitely notice them on the white version as well. The syringe hands are polished and have also been filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9. Together with those so-called super indexes, you won t have any problems reading the time in the dark with either of these. Powered by MiyotaAt 10.8mm thick, including its double-domed sapphire crystal, the Hermetique is a relatively slim watch. That s partly thanks to the automatic Miyota 9039 movement inside. That caliber is only 3.9mm thick, runs at a 28,800vph frequency, features 24 jewels, and holds a 42-hour power reserve. It runs somewhere between -10 and +30 seconds a day. However, as one of you commented earlier, it can easily be regulated to run a lot more accurately than that. The movement is covered by a stainless steel screw-in case back, which helps to achieve respectable water resistance to 150 meters. Final wordsI have to say, I m a fan of the Glacier. I already liked the original Hermetique a lot. This texture, though, adds something extra to the already great-looking field-watch dial. The white version is my favorite for sure as it looks more like a wintery landscape. But the black version doesn t look bad either. The numerals do stand out a bit more against the darker dial behind them. I don t think you can go wrong with either of these. Both look equally elegant, especially at their very affordable price point. The white or black Baltic Hermetique Glacier limited edition can be yours for $600 (ex. VAT) on a strap. The white version of the Hermetique Glacier comes on a white Tropic-style rubber strap and the black version on a black rubber strap. The other option is to get it on either a beads-of-rice or flat-link stainless steel bracelet. In that case, the watch will cost $665 (ex. VAT). Whether you choose the rubber strap or the bracelet, you ll still get an additional black canvas strap with it for free. The Baltic Hermetique Glacier is limited to 400 pieces in total, with 200 in each color.
