Introducing: The Ace Nomos Metro Neomatik Orange

Today, we re celebrating King s Day here in the Netherlands. It s actually our King s birthday tomorrow, but that s a Sunday, so the festivities take place today. A lot of people already started partying last night, during King s Night, and this morning, the flea markets opened up all around the country. But the most important way of celebrating is that cities, villages, pets, and people are all decked out in orange, our national color. That s why, today, we thought it was fitting to introduce you to Nomos s new limited-edition Metro Neomatik Orange models in collaboration with Ace Jewelers from Amsterdam.Ace Jewelers has collaborated with Nomos on numerous limited editions. Most of those have black and red details, which refer to Amsterdam s coat of arms, or accents in orange, the Dutch national color. The jeweler is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, so it makes sense that these limited-edition Metro Neomatik models go all out with orange attire. Let s take a closer look. The Ace Nomos Metro Neomatik Orange in two sizesThe new Nomos Metro Orange comes in two variants. For those who like a smaller watch, there s a 35mm version with a mere 8.1mm thickness and a 42.1mm span between the tips of the wire lugs. Then, there s also a 38.5mm version, which has a negligible 0.3mm increase in thickness and a still relatively modest 45.5mm lug-to-lug length.Both have the same dial layout and matte two-tone orange attire. However, one is the inverted version of the other. The brighter orange tone is almost yellow, and the darker tone has a brownish feel to it. Neither is very flashy, which is something you wouldn t expect when considering the color orange. Except for the red neomatik designation, the printing on the dial is black, just like the super-narrow syringe-style hands.?The cases have a fully polished finish and feature a slightly domed sapphire crystal on top. The case back also has a subtle bevel and holds a flat sapphire crystal, which allows you to see the DUW 3001 automatic movement inside. The wire lugs hold on to the 17mm and 19mm black Horween leather straps, and the push-pull crown features a grippy texture, making it easy to manipulate.An in-house automatic caliber insideWith that crown, you operate the in-house Nomos DUW 3001 automatic movement. This caliber is only 3.2mm thick, runs at a frequency of 21,600vph, holds a power reserve of 43 hours, and features 37 jewels. It s also nice to look at thanks to its blued screws, brass and gold accents, visible jewels, and Glashtte ribbing. It s great that such a thin watch makes use of an automatic movement like the DUW 3001. It makes everyday life with the Metro easier than a hand-winding caliber would.Ace Jewelers CEO Alon Ben Joseph wearing one limited edition on each wristA festive and very special editionNomos is quite selective when it comes to producing limited editions, especially ones in the brand s Metro collection. Ace Jewelers is a trusted partner by now, but still, any limited-edition Metro needs the approval of the original designer, Mark Braun. In this case, Braun also helped pick the orange tones you see on both dials. I think the result came out very well. As I said, orange is a color that can be a bit much sometimes. However, on the Metro Neomatik Orange, it s not.These watches work equally well on any day of the year as they do on King s Day. Of course, they re orange, but they both feature modest shades of the color, which makes them very wearable. On my 17cm wrist, I d prefer the 35mm size, but even the 38.5mm size with its relatively short lug span doesn t look out of place.The 35mm Ace Nomos Metro Orange?costs $3,400, and the 38.5mm version costs $3,540.
