Time flies when youre having retro fun, doesnt it? With an original introduction date a full decade ago, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five collection feels like a brand staple. I have always found the chronograph version to be one of the more appealing models. Well, today is my lucky day because I get to go hands-on with the latest Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph in silver and ocean green. The new version comes with your choice of a sustainably sourced deer leather strap ($3,750) or a stainless steel bracelet ($3,950). Lets have a closer look! The Oris Divers Sixty-Five ChronographAt its heart, the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph is a color variation on the existing watch. Now, you would surely be forgiven for not having all the original version s specs on hand, so lets start with a quick recap of what were dealing with here. The stainless steel case has a 40mm diameter, a 48mm lug-to-lug, and a 15.4mm thickness. Oris gives it a series-standard 100m depth rating and fits it with a screw-down crown. Inside ticks caliber 771, which is Oriss guise of the Sellita SW510. The automatic movement offers 62 hours of autonomy on a full wind and ticks at 28,800 beats per hour. In this dual-sub-dial layout, it presents the running seconds at 9 o clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3. Oris omits the date, which the vintage purists will surely appreciate. The movement sits hidden behind a steel case back; a sensible choice since these calibers are more reliable than pretty. Up top, we find a domed sapphire crystal over the new silver sunburst dial. The markers come with Super-LumiNova for nighttime legibility. Oris opted for crisp white lume, leaving the vintage vibes to the overall design rather than faux patina. The new Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph in silver and ocean greenThe new Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph comes with a subtle silver sunburst dial. This ramps up the already strong retro vibes even more. Color is a fascinating thing, as it can truly change a design. For instance, on the black model, the minute track never really stood out to me. On this version, though, it does. The short markers sit on the inside radius of the longer five-minute markers. This makes the minute track optically push inward, giving a slightly cramped feel. I wonder if the dial would feel more spacious if those short markers were pushed to the more typical position on the outside. I know, I know-I am nitpicking. On to the green. Oris calls it ocean green, but I associate that name with bluer shades of green. The green on this Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph appears warm, almost army or olive green. Oris applied it in a beautifully subtle manner, though. It appears almost black at times but offers a neat bit of character in brighter lighting. The watch doesnt sacrifice any of its versatility in the process. You can pair this watch with a blue jacket or sweater without issue. The Divers Sixty-Five chronograph on my 18cm wristWearing the Oris Divers Sixty-Five ChronographI find the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph a very pretty watch. This new colorway only adds to that sentiment. Yes, the entire line is very retro, meaning you dont come here to observe bold new design choices, but at least it is clear and honest about it. You buy an Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph because you like the look of old diving chronos, but you want modern build quality, dependability, and warranty. Fair enough! On the wrist, the watch looks very appealing. It charms you with its domed sapphire over the beautiful sunray dial. The applied indexes glisten in the sunlight while the green gives it a signature look. It is all very pretty indeed! My advice would be to get it on the riveted bracelet. I love Oris s bracelet because it is well made and noticeably thinner than most bracelets, which is very comfortable indeed. Oh, and the rivets are real!My one gripe is the watchs 15.4mm thickness. Now, you can hardly blame Oris for this, as none of the Swiss suppliers of ebauche movements produce a slender automatic chronograph caliber in this segment. The thing is, a thickness like this doesnt stand out in a more hardcore tool watch. The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph, however, excels at vintage elegance, which makes the thickness quite noticeable. It somewhat breaks the illusion of dealing with an actual vintage watch.Closing thoughtsAll in all, I think Oris delivers another strong contender with the Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph in silver and ocean green. The watch is distinctly handsome, well built, nicely finished, and a joy to wear. Although it doesnt wear large, I would recommend it primarily to enthusiasts with slightly larger wrists, as this makes the thickness less noticeable.Still, if you are after vintage charm paired with modern build quality, you could do much worse than the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph. Now, though, you will have to face the tough decision between the beautiful black model and this charming new silver and green offering.
