Brand Watches
November 24, 2020
Back in November 2019, during my last trip as a journalist with Fratello Watches, I attended Dubai Watch Week. I genuinely love the event as one can get unprecedented access to many brands, their CEOs, and, more often than not, their latest creations. That is the story of how I managed to check out the, then new, H. Moser & Cie Streamliner Flyback Chronograph. Fast forward to almost a year later, and we have the second model from the Streamliner family; the H.Moser & Cie Streamliner Centre Seconds.I snatched the Flyback Chronograph from the wrist of Moser CEO and all-around cool guy, Ed Meylan s wrist, during one of our talks. It was a very different look, something Moser fans were not used to. A beautiful watch with crazy details and a neo-retro look. This time the band was gracious enough to send us a Streamliner Centre Seconds a few days before the release. Here are the details.InspirationMoser introduced the Streamliner model family with a bang. The Flyback Chronograph might have been a polarizing timepiece, but this daringness characterizes the brand from the early days. Just think of the Mad Watch or the even more controversial Swiss Icons watch. In a way, the looks of the newly introduced Streamliner were just as different. The case or the dial looked vintage. The complication is also not a new invention. The bracelet, however, as well as the movement, were brand new and 21st century. I loved the watch from the first moment I saw it. Then again, I m a sucker for vintage watches, and I particularly dig the late 60s and early 70s, of which the Streamliner reminds me. Although, as the name suggests, the watch s true inspiration comes from the streamliner trains of the 20s and 30s. The new Streamliner Centre Seconds carries the same DNA.Streamliner Centre SecondsNow let s take a closer look at the new Moser Streamliner Centre Seconds. First of all, we have a time-only piece with center seconds. The dial has the same design as the Flyback this time however, with a breathtaking Matrix Green fume. This dial is a trademark of the brand and one of the most stylish features of the watch. It is incredible how versatile that green color is, shifting from light green to olive and even deep dark green, it appears almost black from certain angles. The dial gives a funky look to the timepiece while keeping its elegance at the same time. Moser used the same type of hands as before; a 3-dimensional curved hour and minute hands, with two sections and ceramic-based Globolight inserts. The Streamliner Centre Seconds is easily readable, and the hands glow like a torch in the dark.Steel all the wayThe case and the bracelet have exactly the same design as the Flyback Chronograph but in a smaller 40mm size. The top has a satin finish while the sides have some polished elements too. All in all, however, the Streamliner Centre Seconds has a very understated look with the polished case and bracelet.Speaking of which, one of the key new features of the Flyback Chronograph was obviously its integrated steel bracelet. Some even drew a comparison between the awesome, vintage Omega lobster bracelets and this. I think it is one of those things where you have to see it in real life to appreciate the details. It has a highly complex construction and the finishing is some of the most precise I have seen.Moser all the wayThe watch works well on the wrist as is. The bracelet is comfortable, the watch head is not too heavy. If you wish to admire the HMC 200 caliber inside the H. Moser & Cie Centre Seconds, you can do so through the display case back. As far as the movement goes, we have a frequency of 21,600vph, 26 jewels, an 18K solid gold oscillating weight, and a minimum power reserve of three days. If this is not enough for you, this self-winding caliber is decorated with the breathtaking Moser stripes finishing and the Moser hallmark on the oscillating weight. If you d like to add the new H. Moser & Cie Centre Seconds to our collection, it will cost you CHF 19,900. However, as suggested earlier, whether you are on the market for a timepiece like this or not, you really should take a closer look at it if you have the chance. It will not disappoint.
